CENTRAL EUROPE project RUBIRES organised summer school
Being more conscious about the environment is the credo of today. Using energy more efficient and fostering the use of renewable energies is an important piece in combating climate change. It will be the young generation of today which will have it in their hands to act responsible with the environment.
The CENTRAL EUROPE project RUBIRES is aiming at exploiting the regional potential for renewable energies which will contribute to the strengthening of regional economy, help to reduce the CO2 emissions and therefore support the European climate protection strategies.
Within this project nine regional school competitions have been organised by the project partners. Pupils were asked to develop interesting, imaginative products. In a second step each region has chosen one winner team, which was invited by the project RUBIRES to participate at a summer school concerning biological resources and its usage in the Bioenergy Region Straubing-Bogen in Germany.
On 7th June the nine teams arrived in Straubing and got a first chance to get to know each other during a common dinner. On the second day god practice examples for the use of renewable energy was introduced to the participants during their visit of the Expert Centre for Biomass Research Straubing and the Danube harbour (Bio-Cubator).
Also on the day three the pupils and their teachers have visited important showcases. Among others the Maintenance Services for the Greenery of the City Straubing which has its own wood firing heating. It uses wood chips which accrue by daily activities like cutting down trees and bushes. In the afternoon the participants have visited the bioenergy village Ascha, which is energy self-sufficient.
Giving the young people the chance to get to know each other the programme was completed by some amusement. The group have had much fun at the Skittles Centre and on a walking path in the surrounding of Straubing, which was visited on Wednesday. Its construction is elevated above solid ground (on newels) on some parts as high as 30 metres and it offers a great view over Lower Bavaria.
On Thursday 10th June all participants returned to their home regions full of new impressions.
