To investigate the exposure of the population to ultrafine particles, UFIREG partners have established standardised measurements using custom-made mobility particle size spectrometers in the five project cities. The report outlines results of the comparative air quality analysis conducted.

UFIREG project elaborated standardised and harmonised measurements of ultrafine particles (UFP) in five European cities: Augsburg and Dresden (Germany), Prague (Czech Republic), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Chernivtsi (Ukraine). On the basis of the data generated through UFIREG measurements, UFIREG partners assessed the exposure to UFP in the participating cities and analysed short-term effects of UFP and other air pollutants on mortality and hospital admissions. The transnational approach enabled the project team to carry out a multi-centre study, using the same monitoring and health outcome evaluation approaches across several cities in Central Europe.
